Strength & Conditioning Melbourne, with Physios & VALD Testing On-Site
Train at Melbourne Sports Physiotherapy's Essendon gym, where AFL-grade VALD force plate testing and in-house physio support come standard, not as an add-on you pay extra for.
Melbourne Sports Physiotherapy's strength and conditioning membership pairs AFL-grade VALD force plate testing with in-house physio oversight at its Essendon gym, from $59 a week. Every membership includes four free 1:1 Foundation Sessions, a weekly small-group class, open gym access, and a strength testing and progression review every 8 weeks. Our bespoke membership model gets you all of the below, for only $59 per week (direct debit):
- 4 Free introductory 1 on 1 training sessions over your first 4 weeks (so you know what to do and aren't left guessing, $350+ value)
- Customised individual strength programs
- 1x 45min small group class each week, so you have a coach watching you every step of the way
- 30min strength testing and exercise program progression session every 8 weeks - all included, so you don't plateau

What our strength & conditioning clients are saying about us
Most Gyms Sell Access.
Our Strength & Conditioning Coaches Sell Results.
Sound Familiar?
You've been training consistently and you're still hitting walls. Or you're coming back from injury and no one's actually given you a real plan to get back to full capacity.
That's not you being the problem. It's the environment.
❌ Left to figure out your own program
❌ Didn't get results from doing a generic class where everyone does same thing
❌ No idea if you're actually getting stronger
❌ Injured again because no one was watching your load
❌ Plateaued despite months of consistent training
❌ Physio and strength coach never talk to each other
Training harder isn't the fix. Training somewhere that actually measures what's working is.
This is different. Here's why.
Melbourne Sports Physiotherapy's Essendon strength and conditioning gym puts physiotherapists and S&C coaches in the same building, working from the same VALD Human Performance data. Your program is built around your own movement profile and injury history, then retested every 8 weeks so you know it's still working, not left running on autopilot for months.
How it works:
- Foundation Sessions 1 to 4: your coach establishes a VALD baseline (ForceDecks force plates, NordBord hamstring testing) and builds your program around it.
- Weekly small group class: you train your own program with a coach watching every session, not a generic class everyone follows.
- Open gym access: train independently during business hours, whenever suits you outside class time.
- 8-week review: retest against your baseline and progress the program so it doesn't plateau.
Unlike a standard commercial gym, where you're handed a program on day one and left to self-correct for months, yours is checked against real force plate data every 8 weeks. Unlike a personal trainer working without clinical oversight, if something flares up, your coach talks to the physio in the next room, not a stranger you'd have to explain your history to from scratch.

Training Backed by Real Data.
Most gyms can't tell you how strong you actually are. We can — with the same VALD Human Performance technology used by elite AFL clubs and Olympic programs.
Most return-to-sport decisions are made on a calendar date and a pain score. Ours are made on data.
What we measure:
- Force production and power output via ForceDecks (force plates)
- Eccentric hamstring strength via the NordBord — the single best predictor of hamstring injury risk in football
- Limb symmetry index — the left-right comparison that determines whether you're actually ready to return to sport, not just pain-free
Why it matters:
- 90%+ limb symmetry is the evidence-based criterion for ACL return-to-sport clearance. Athletes who return before hitting that number re-injure at rates 2–8x higher than those who do.
- It's the same battery used by AFL clubs and Olympic programs — not a scaled-down version of it.
When you get tested:
- Foundation Sessions 1–4 (your baseline)
- Every 8-week Review Session (progress confirmed with data)
- Every 1:1 private coaching session
No guessing. No going off feel. Just numbers.

Strength & Conditioning Gym Membership FAQs
How much does strength and conditioning coaching cost in Melbourne? Membership starts at $59 a week, which includes four Foundation Sessions, a weekly small group class, open gym access, and an 8-weekly VALD testing and progression review. A 2x weekly class membership is $109 a week, and casual 1:1 private sessions are $89 each.
Do I need to be injured to join? No. Many members join with no injury history and simply want expert coaching and testing. If you're currently injured, we'd recommend starting with a physio assessment so your rehab and training are built together from day one.
How is this different from a regular gym? Your membership includes coaching, physio oversight, VALD strength testing, four Foundation Sessions, and a progress review every 8 weeks. At a standard gym, you're left to figure that out yourself.
Can I join while still seeing a physio? Yes. Your physio and S&C coach communicate directly, and your program is adjusted around whatever treatment you're receiving. The move from rehab to performance training happens with the same team, not a handoff to strangers.
Is there a lock-in contract? No long-term lock-in after your first 4 weeks. After that, membership runs week by week, and you can pause it for 7 or more days or cancel it at any time.
How does the money-back guarantee work? If you're not happy with a session, contact us within 24 hours of it and you'll get that week's payment back. It covers the week you raise it in, not sessions you've already trained through without saying anything.
Where is the gym located? The strength and conditioning gym is based at Melbourne Sports Physiotherapy's Essendon clinic.
What are your opening hours? Monday to Wednesday 7:30am to 7:30pm, Thursday 7:00am to 7:30pm, Friday 7:00am to 5:00pm, Saturday 7:30am to 1:00pm, closed Sundays and public holidays.
