Which type of massage is best for you?
Massage is now one of the most recommended and sought after treatments when it comes to maintaining good physical health.
All of our therapists at Melbourne Sports Physiotherapy are qualified and highly trained in many modalities of massage.
But which type of massage is right for you?
Here is a breakdown of commonly used styles of massage to help determine which treatment would be best suited to you.
Remedial Massage
Remedial massage is applied as remedy or intervention, with the idea being to aid the healing of an existing injury. The therapy and treatment given is very specific to the client and injury presented. Remedial massage is one of the most in-demand services we provide here at Melbourne Sports Physiotherapy. Our therapists provide Remedial Massage services to both Richmond Football Club AFL and the Western Bulldogs AFLW teams.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage will see a more focussed pressure applied into a specific area to fix whatever problems are thought to be in that area. It can be a very intense and occasionally, at times, uncomfortable style of massage. This style is very effective in treating chronic muscle tension beyond the reach of a relaxation massage. Even though the pressure can sometimes be very firm, our therapists listen to your demands and tolerances, and apply pressure, so that you are in control the whole time.
Sports Massage
Sports massage is more specifically designed for and applied to athletes who compete in sports. They may have minor sport related injuries, or simply muscle soreness from lactic acid build-up. Performed both pre and post exercise, this massage style is usually applied quite vigorously. This helps to ensure good muscle response and/or to speed up the recovery process. It also helps with fluid movement around the body.
Our therapists provide Remedial Massage services to both Richmond Football Club AFL and the Western Bulldogs AFLW teams.
Relaxation Massage
Also known as Swedish massage, relaxation massage is more aimed at stress relief rather than a physical treatment for injuries. In this style of massage, a lighter pressure is applied and generally applied to the whole body. More commonly found in spas, this type of massage is very effective for warming up the muscles, increasing circulation, relieving tension and gradually breaking up muscle knots.
Pre-Natal Massage
Massage therapy during pregnancy can help to relieve many of the normal discomforts endured by a pregnant woman, from back and neck pain to leg cramps, headaches, and fluid overload.
