Deep Tissue versus Relaxation Massage in ESSENDON
At Melbourne Sports Physiotherapy we offer many different types of massage.
Two commonly requested modalities are Deep Tissue and Relaxation Massage.
With so many different treatment options, it is sometimes hard to differentiate between, and decide which option is best for you.
Sometimes you just want to relax and unwind after a stressful week at work, and other times you require more targeted treatment in particularly troublesome areas.
Here we are going to take a look at some popular forms of massage therapy.
What's the difference? What’s involved in the treatment? And most importantly which one is best for you?
Themain difference between Deep Tissue and Relaxation Massage is simple-
Relaxation Massage can aid in relaxing both the mind and body. Typically long strokes are used with lighter pressure to create a stimulating flow across the entire body. This type of massage can help aid in stress-inflicted tension by helping to relax the body, lower blood pressure and promote an overall sense of well being.
Deep Tissue Massage is exactly as the name suggests and is a much deeper form of treatment which applies stronger pressure. Therapists will aim to target trigger points and knead through any knots which can help to alleviate chronic tension and pain. Some soreness may be experienced post treatment due to the pressure the muscles have been put under. This should subside between 24-48 hours after as the toxins are removed from the body.
In deciding what type of massage to ask for, consider what your goals are post treatment.
Remember your therapist is there to help you reach your goals and answer any questions you may have. Let your therapist know your needs to ensure you get the kind of treatment you want and get the most out of your session.
