Three Great Exercises for Cheerleaders
Following on from our injury prevention advice I would like to show you three of our favourite exercises for cheerleaders.
Remember cheerleading is a sport with a variety of requirements and no two athletes are the same so you may require a more tailored exercise program to suit your needs.
1. Single leg step up onto Bosu Ball
This exercise may look like it is just for flyers (and it's a great one!) but it can be really useful for backs, bases and tumblers too working on your hip stability, control and power. The bosu ball provides an unstable surface to challenge your balance.
This exercise can be key in your rehab after a variety of injuries including hip/back/ knee and ankles.
2. Single leg Arabesque Hip External Rotation
3. Single leg Arabesque Hip External Rotation
We love this exercise for cheerleaders as it uses you muscles to gain thoracic flexibility whilst keeping you strong. Sitting in the chair helps isolate the movement to your thoracic spine and the band provides the resistance required to strengthen these muscles.
Try 20 on each side.
If you have any specific cheerleading type injuries or issues that simply won’t go away, please feel free to email [email protected] for some tips and ideas that may help you feel better, faster!
